The Madryn Castle Story

Madryn Castle is a family run holiday home park, located on a part of the Llŷn Peninsula, that is steeped in history. It was once home to Madryn Castle, built by the Jones-Parry family of the Madryn estate, back in the 19th Century. The Castle stood for over a century before it was destroyed in a fire in the 1960’s.

The holiday park was established in the late 1960's, when the site was initially run as a caravan park. It today covers 108 permanent pitches plus two holiday lodges.

Parts of the old castle can still be seen today as the castle’s original gatehouse was beautifully restored in 2011 and today houses the park's main office.

The History of Madryn Estate

The Jones-Parry family of the Madryn estate were the biggest landowners on the Peninsula during the nineteenth century and owned most of the land within the parish of Llanbedrog.

The Grade II* listed dower house, built in 1856/57 for Lady Elizabeth Love Jones-Parry of Madryn Estate, is a prime example of a Victorian Gothic mansion.

Today, the Tudor gatehouse is all that remains of the noble mansion that was intentionally destroyed during the 1960's brought about because of dry rot and the deteriorating condition of the building.

Customer Reviews and Testimonials

'We are proud owners of our chalet and spend a large part of our year here. This peaceful park is beautifully landscaped and with our chalet sited in an elevated position, we are granted fantastic views across the countryside. There’s plenty to keep you busy here including a woodland path, a walk up Garn Fadryn, tennis courts and a playground for the youngsters.'
